The Beginning of the End

Now that was a little dramatic, wasn't it?

It's sort of correct, though. The bishop of the local ward came and paid Derrick and I a visit last night. We let him know where we stand and told him that we wanted to remove ourselves from the records of the church. He was very polite and diplomatic about it and said that if we did send him our resignation letters he would start the process for us.

Now I just need to have that conversation with my parents. Ugh. That's going to be an ugly one.

Best of luck! You have got Derrick by your side, so I am pretty certain you will be okay.

Take care!

Thanks, Joey. All will be fine. I just need to "rip the bandaid off," so to speak, with respect to my parents.

Kiley, actually the best way for them to leave me alone is for me to not be on their membership records anymore. No more unwanted visits. Plus, I don't want to be a stat for something I don't believe in anymore.

You are a braver man than me, sir. I've thought about having my name removed from the records 100 times, but something keeps me from doing it. I'm pretty confident it's not latent belief; I'm more and more convinced that all religions are simply myths in the making with Mormonism not being an exception. But it feels like I'd be losing a part of the very essence of me if I couldn't call myself Mormon anymore.

Good luck with the parents!

I can relate! I am in the process of resigning my membership (I don't know why they can't just do it without delaying the process) and I still haven't decided if and/or when I should tell my parents. Good luck with telling yours. I hope it goes well. On the plus side, since your Bishop has already agreed to honor your wishes the process should be fairly speedy.
